COURSE DESCRIPTION:  The Flight Instructor Safety Course conducted by RHC is a 3-1/2 day course, which includes 2-1/2 days of classroom instruction and 1 day devoted to maintenance, pre-flight inspections, and flying with an experienced RHC pilot in the R22 or R44.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND: While geared toward flight instructors, the course is open to any rated helicopter pilot who has at least three hours in the R22 or R44 helicopter, one hour of which was flown within 30 days prior to attending the course. Students may enroll in anticipation of receiving their rating, however, they must have obtained their helicopter rating prior to attending the course.  As the class is taught in English, it is also required that all attendees understand English.

COURSE DURATION AND SCHEDULE: Monday, the course curriculum includes a review of past R22 and R44 accidents, their causes and how they could be avoided, helicopter theory, critical flight conditions, and a tour of RHC’s manufacturing facility.  The Awareness Training required by SFAR 73 is also included.  All registrants must arrive by 7:45 a.m. on Monday.  For your convenience, the classroom door will be opened at 7:30 a.m. on Monday, 7:45 a.m. on all subsequent days.

Tuesday, the instruction covers the R22 and R44 Pilot Operating Handbook (POH) and Maneuver Guide and R22 Flight Training Guide, as well as pertinent regulations, FAR parts 61 and 91.

Wednesday’s session is an in-depth look at the R22 and R44 systems and a review of maintenance and pre-flight procedures.  Also scheduled is 60 to 90 minutes of flight training with an experienced RHC flight instructor.  The first 30 pilots enrolled into a class, will fly on or before Wednesday.

Thursday includes additional helicopter theory, a course review, written examination and critique, and is concluded by noon, unless scheduled to fly Thursday afternoon or Friday.

Lunch is provided by RHC on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.  Coffee, tea, and donuts are provided Monday through Thursday mornings.

Dress Attire: Closed-toe shoes are required. Tank tops or sleeveless undershirts are not permitted.

ENROLLMENT:  Safety Course Application and full course tuition must be received by RHC in order to receive enrollment confirmation.  Also required are copies of attendee’s Helicopter Pilot License and current Medical Certificate, and must be submitted prior to scheduled course date.

TUITION:  The cost of the entire course, including flight time, is US$400.00 if the R22 is to be flown, or US$500.00 if the R44 is to be flown.  Please note: Course reservations are only valid for the pilot listed on the confirmation letter and are not transferable.
